Objectives: Significant inverse association amongst coffee intake and the amounts of liver enzymes has been reported. We demonstrated higher prevalence of metabolic syndrome in Korean immigrants (KIs) than in indigenous Japanese (IJs). The aim of this review was to investigate whether the association among coffee consumption and liver enzyme levels was diverse between the two ethnic groups.
Approaches: This review is a cross-sectional research such as a complete of 966 topics comprising KIs and IJs. The association between the quintiles of coffee consumption and dichotomous values of liver enzymes was evaluated by logistic regression evaluation in KIs, IJs, a large-risk group (existing smokers or alcohol drinkers ≥45 g/day), and a minimal-chance group (non-smokers and alcohol drinkers <45 g/day).
Benefits: In KIs, a significant inverse association amongst coffee intake and serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST) levels was observed. In the IJs, a important inverse association in between coffee consumption and serum alanine aminotransferase amounts was observed.
